The Secretary of U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the Biden administration recently designated Temporary Projected Status (TPS) for nationals of Venezuela and Burma in the USA. The former Trump administration issued a memorandum on January 19, 2021 providing for the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) of certain Venezuelan nationals. The CLE will provide an overview of TPS, a comparison with DED, and discuss how to apply, inadmissibility waivers, late registration, and special considerations for asylum seekers and dual nationals, etc. Opportunities to represent TPS cases pro bono will be discussed.
