Changing the Face of America, from Immigrant to Citizen (N-400), an MMLA Pro Bono Volunteer Training

This training provides pro bono volunteers with the skills needed to understand basic immigration law and help eligible clients apply to become new United States citizens. The education session focuses on the basics of citizenship law including who is eligible, what the specific requirements are to apply for citizenship, the idea of good moral character, and the language skills necessary to pass the reading, writing and civics portions of the citizenship exam. Volunteers will learn how to interview clients, how to prepare citizenship applications, the mechanics of filing applications with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, and the best way to prepare clients for their interviews before immigration officers.

This training is required for individuals interested in volunteering as part of Legal Aid's Pro Bono Citizenship program.
