When Your Client is Impaired - Addiction, Mental Health and Other Issues for Attorneys

  • 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
  • Central Time (US & Canada)
  • By: MSBA Family Law Section
  • Presidents Room / Minnesota State Bar Association
Topics:
  • Mental Health Issues
  • Family Law / Domestic Violence
  • Elimination of Bias

This program will help to identify and eliminate biases against persons because of disabilities related to mental and chemical health issues. Powerful stigmas remain attached to both chemical health and mental health related disabilities. Because of those stigmas, discrimination occurs both to impaired lawyers and by lawyers toward impaired clients and potential clients.

Topics that will be covered include an overview of mental illness and addiction, how impairment arises in representation, the role of a lawyer when a client or party may be impaired, lawyer impairment, and ethical considerations in such circumstances.

The Family Law Section membership will meet prior to the CLE at 9:30 a.m.
