Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid Housing Expungement Workshop

Topics:
  • Expungements

Safe and stable housing is a basic need for all individuals. However, the scarcity of this resource in the Twin Cities rental market places those who have an eviction on their record at a severe disadvantage.

Come learn about housing evictions, the process of expunging evictions from a person's rental record, and how you can be part of the solution. This training, led by a senior attorney within MMLA's Housing Program, is a prerequisite for attending our bimonthly housing expungement workshop. After learning the substantive and procedural requirements for arguing an expungement before the housing court, trained volunteers have the opportunity to meet with low income clients interested in working with an attorney who will represent them in court.

Volunteers are expected to draft the legal motions, file and serve the motion, and represent the client in court. Supervision and mentorship is provided throughout the program.
