This CLE is a joint program between MCJP and VLN.  This CLE will provide pro bono attorneys with a brief overview of how to advise low-income clients who have had one or more judgments entered against them.  Many consumers who have defaulted on debts don’t realize that they have been sued and lost a lawsuit until money is goes missing from their bank accounts or paychecks.  A surprised judgment debtor who was not expecting their money to go missing often desperately wants to know how they can get their money back and stop further collection action from occurring.  This CLE will focus on helping pro bono attorneys identify exemptions that a client may have to claim in response to garnishment of earnings and financial institution accounts as well as providing an overview of how to vacate judgments entered in Conciliation Court and entered in District Court in Minnesota.  This will be a free, one-hour CLE, and 1.0 standard CLE credit will be applied for.
