The events of the past year have taught us that any progress on racial justice requires an ongoing commitment—not only to addressing the issues, but to understanding multiple perspectives. Nondiscrimination is a core principle of human rights and a commitment to racial justice underpins all our programming at The Advocates for Human Rights. This year, our Human Rights Book Club will focus on racial justice in the United States. We have selected four important books for the series and look forward to thought- provoking discussions and new ideas for advocacy. Please join us for one or two meetings, or the full series, to take part in the discussion.

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Written as a letter to his teenage son, Ta-Nehisi Coates details the realities of Black Americans living within a society shaped by white supremacy. Throughout the book, Coates uses a combination of his own experiences and historical events to illustrate how institutional racism affects the day-to-day lives and physical security of Black Americans and explains how they try to cope with its effects.
