Please join the Lavender Bar Association in learning about the ways in which LGBTQ communities worldwide are fighting back against attacks on their human rights, and how Midwest-based attorneys, judges, and other advocates can use their unique skills to join these vulnerable communities in advocating for their rights to be protected and advanced, in a time where those rights face a variety of attacks.
Presenters from Minnesota-based non-profit The Advocates for Human Rights will discuss the areas of the world experiencing major challenges to human rights of LGBTQ individuals, and how attorneys can:
- Effectively advocate for asylum seekers and others seeking humanitarian protection from deportation
- Effectively respond to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions' unprecedented decision in Matter of A-B-, and its potential impact on the human rights of LGBTQ asylum seekers
- Assist youth and adults impacted by the administrations' recent policies regarding family separation and border detention
- Advocate for those impacted by the Trump Administration's travel ban
- Advocate on behalf of protections for the rights of LGBTQ communities before international treaty bodies
- Participate in the work of diaspora communities in Minnesota and the Dakotas to advance the rights of LGBTQ individuals in their countries of origin
