This is a panel discussion featuring Practical Advice on Hot Topics in U.S. immigration law, with a focus on ethical considerations and challenges. Rather than cover a few topics in detail, we plan to "issue spot" on a wide range of topics to assist practitioners in identifying current trends:

    The status of discretionary programs – DACA and TPS;
    Ethical considerations for Changing Rules/Processes/Programs;
    The ethics of asylum representation;
    Dealing with slow processing times – at the new downtown Minneapolis Field Office and all the regional service centers, plus NVC/U.S. consulates;
    Update on local EOIR/Immigration Court priorities;
    RFEs on I-864 affidavits of support;
    The availability of Mexican police certificates;
    H-1B challenges (cap/cap-exempt/specialty occupation/site visits);
    Volatility of Employment-Based Visa Numbers and the monthly Visa Bulletin;
    EB I-485s and "Supplement J";
    Is PERM actually a bright spot in EB immigration?
    I-9 Compliance/Litigation/Sanctions ("Hire American; Buy American");
    Ongoing aggressiveness of ICE, as well as Customs & Border Protection

Please join the Immigration Section for this educational presentation (1.5 regular CLE credits + .5 Ethics credits). There will also be the immigration section’s annual meeting and election of officers. Heavy appetizers and drinks are included in the cost of registration.

Section members not attending the CLE are welcome to attend the Annual Meeting and evening social hour free of charge. For catering purposes, RSVPs to Kayla Erbach are appreciated.
