Pro Bono Attorney Training: Low Income Taxpayer Issues

Topics:
  • Taxes

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid's Tax Law Project assists taxpayers with low incomes who are experiencing legal controversies involving the Internal Revenue Service. The Tax Law Project is looking for attorneys who are interested in assisting taxpayers with the tax collections process, IRS and Minnesota individual income tax audits and United States Tax Court cases. We welcome any attorney who is committed to providing pro bono service to taxpayers regardless of tax experience. The Tax Project staff attorney provides necessary training and guidance to attorneys who agree to accept a case.

At this training, MMLA staff attorney Nick Xanthopoulos will introduce attorneys to the special issues facing low-income taxpayers. We will focus on issues that often get individuals in trouble, and address best practices for resolving cases quickly.

You must have an active bar license, and be in good standing, but previous tax experience is not necessary! The LITC program is a great introduction to tax issues and working with low income clients. Please come, and invite your colleagues to participate.
