This training is designed as an introduction to common family law issues for attorneys who are new to family law practice or for pro bono attorneys who are working on or encountering family law issues in cases or clinics. It will be geared more towards issue identification and responding to questions than handling a case from start to finish.

Topics covered in the Divorce training will include: rights & responsibilities of the parties, financial issues, dividing and dealing with jointly owned property and debts, and post-divorce issues such as contempt and spousal maintenance issues.

Topics covered in the Custody training will include: types of custody, requests to change an existing custody order, resolving disputes between parents, contempt.

Questions are welcomed and encouraged.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Divorce

12:30 – 1:30 pm: Custody

CLE: 2.0 hours of Minnesota Standard CLE credit will be applied for.
