Dr. Green will describe events and issues he discussed in his 2015 book Degrees of Freedom: The Origins of Civil Rights in Minnesota, 1865-1912, which won the 2015 Hognander Award for the most outstanding scholarly work related to Minnesota history during the preceding two years.

Dr. William Green is professor of history at Augsburg College, where he specializes in U.S. civil rights, American legal history, and Minnesota history. He is also author of A Peculiar Imbalance: The Fall and Rise of Racial Equality in Early Minnesota.
