Upper Midwest American Indian Center provides an informal request and referral service to low-income Native American persons in Hennepin County. The center has a regular need for attorneys to work in the following areas: public benefits and foster/ daycare, bankruptcy, landlordtenant, residential housing and homelessness issues, juvenile law, criminal defense, and discrimination in the areas of disability, employment, individual rights, labor, and school law. Taxation, wills and estates, and health care issues are areas of occasional need. Attorneys should be open and sensitive to American Indian issues and have their own malpractice coverage. Clerical support is available and law student volunteers are welcome. The center would like to have a comprehensive legal services program offered on-site.
