Tara J. Ulmaniec is this year's recipient of the CMLS Volunteer Attorney Program award for outstanding pro bono service in the Eighth Judicial District. Ms. Ulmaniec is a 1998 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1995. Ms. Ulmaniec has been practicing law in Southwest Minnesota for over five years. She is currently a shareholder at the law firm of Wilcox & Ulmaniec, P.A. in Swift County, and runs a general practice of law with the other shareholder, Donald A. Wilcox. Ms. Ulmaniec has been an active panel member of the Volunteer Attorney Program since she began practicing law. Currently, she serves on the Board of Central Minnesota Legal Services. Ms. Ulmaniec stated that she greatly enjoys providing pro bono legal services to individuals who would not otherwise have such services available to them. She has proven this by the number of cases that she has handled through referrals from our program. Ms. Ulmaniec was also recognized for her pro bono service with a scholarship to Minnesota CLE's Family Law Institute in 2002. Ms. Ulmaniec said that in her spare time she has enjoyed restoring, with her husband, the Victorian home that they purchased last year, spending time with her family and friends, and trying to improve her golf game.
