In a case brought by Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance(MMLA) and Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis challenging certain benefits cuts made in the 2003 Legislature, DHS has been ordered to refund one time $50 payments to subsidized housing residents for a total of about $300,000. In addition, the judge barred DHS from recovering benefit payments made to recipients with disabled family members. The attorney representing the plaintiffs is Ralonda Mason of MMLA-St. Cloud Area Legal Services.
