MLSC Provides Clarity on Important Issue after Star Tribune Article

A recent Star Tribune article, "In jail for being in debt", may have confused some members of the public by intimating that one can go to jail simply for failing to pay a debt. While it is true that creditors are being more aggressive in going after delinquent creditors who fail to show up to court hearings or complete financial disclosure forms--resulting in warrants being issued for their arrest--one can not go to jail simply for not paying their debt.
In order to provide clarity on this issue, the Minnesota Legal Services Coalition created this fact sheet.
