Legal Services Corporation distributes funding nationwide for civil legal representation of the poor. In an omnibus spending bill passed by Congress on 15 December 2009, $420 million this fiscal year was appropriated to LSA, up from $390 million last year. That’s a 7.7 percent increase over funding provided last year, but still not enough to meet the need of the poor for legal advice and assistance. Last year, LSC released a report which said that limited resources made it possible to serve only half of the people who need help.
