Over $400,000 raised for Mississippi lawyer relief funds

Monday, September 18, 2006

The Minnesota State Bar Assocation and Minnesota State Bar Foundation were two of the hundreds of donors who contributed more than $400,000 to relief funds for lawyers in Mississippi affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Hurricane Katrina touched down in the Mississippi Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005 and the 140 mph winds devasted attorneys in the hardest hit counties of Hancock, Harrison and Jackson. Nearly 900 lawyers lost offices, homes and possessions as a result. The Minnesota State Bar Association and Minnesota State Bar Foundation helped aid these attorneys by contributing to two relief funds coordinated by the Mississippi Bar Assocation.

As a result of the nearly $400,000 in contributions received from the various donors, over 150 law offices that were destroyed or severly damaged were provided with direct financial assistance. Attorneys and their clients in the area continue to try to recover from the disaster, you can continue to assist in the rebuilding efforts by contacting the Mississippi Bar at (601) 948-4471 or going to their website by clicking the link in this article.
